New Zealand Certificate in Christian Ministry (Level 4)

This programme comprises 120 credits across five compulsory courses and is delivered over 40 weeks.

It is a full-time programme involving a total of 30 hours of learning per week, including class contact, tutorials, project work, independent learning and practical ministry experience.

The programme combines biblical and theological learning with practical Christian ministry and leadership development. Through the Internship, students have the opportunity to apply their learning in a mentored ministry or community setting, developing practical leadership skills while supporting the spiritual development of individuals and groups.

Throughout the programme, students explore Christian spirituality, biblical and theological principles, the Old and New Testaments, and their application to contemporary Christian life, leadership and ministry. Learning recognises the importance of bicultural and multicultural contexts and encourages students to connect their study with their own communities, faith journey and ministry practice.

Graduates will have developed the knowledge and practical skills to contribute in a variety of roles within Christian churches, ministries, agencies and community organisations, including pastoral and ministry support, leadership and voluntary service.

This qualification also provides a pathway to further study in Christian Studies at Level 5, including the New Zealand Diploma in Christian Studies (Level 5).

NEW ZEALAND CERTIFICATE IN CHRISTIAN MINISTRY (LEVEL 4)

  • Develop practical ministry and leadership skills through supervised experience in a Christian ministry setting. Students plan and complete ministry projects, develop pastoral leadership skills and reflect on the connection between biblical principles, leadership and practical ministry.

  • Explore contemporary expressions of Christian spirituality, with particular attention to Pentecostal and Charismatic approaches to experiencing God. Students examine spiritual disciplines and their value within Christian life and bicultural and multicultural contexts.

  • Explore the foundational beliefs of the Christian faith and their biblical and theological foundations. Students learn to apply Christian principles to their own faith journey and to support the spiritual development of others.

  • Develop a foundational understanding of the structure, events and major themes of the Old Testament. Students learn basic interpretation skills and explore how Old Testament principles apply to Christian leadership, life and contemporary communities.

  • Develop a foundational understanding of the structure, events and major themes of the New Testament. Students learn basic interpretation skills and explore the relevance of New Testament teaching to Christian life, leadership and contemporary communities.

New Zealand Diploma in Christian Studies (Level 5)

This programme comprises 120 credits across five compulsory courses and is delivered over 40 weeks.

It is a full-time programme involving a total of 30 hours of learning per week, combining class contact, tutorials, project work, independent study and applied leadership experience.

The programme develops advanced Christian leadership, biblical and theological understanding and practical ministry skills. Students explore Christian leadership in contemporary settings, Pasifika Christianity, Christian worldview, and deeper study of the Old and New Testaments.

A significant focus of the programme is the practical application of leadership. Through the Leadership course and internship experience, students apply Christian leadership principles in real ministry and community settings, facilitate teams, contribute to organisational goals, and lead and evaluate practical projects.

Students are encouraged to connect biblical and theological learning with the social, cultural and community contexts in which they lead. The programme particularly recognises the importance of Pasifika perspectives and knowledge while preparing students to work effectively across diverse communities.

Graduates will be equipped to take greater responsibility in Christian ministry, church and community leadership, pastoral ministry, chaplaincy, youth and community work, faith-based organisations and other leadership environments. The leadership knowledge and skills developed through the programme are also transferable into wider community, organisational and vocational settings.

The qualification can provide a pathway to further study in Christian Studies at Level 6 and other higher-level learning.

NEW ZEALAND DILPOME IN CHRISTIAN STUDIES (LEVEL 5)

  • Develop and apply Christian leadership principles through practical leadership and supervised ministry experience. Students explore organisational leadership, pastoral ministry, mentoring, team development and the leadership skills required to accomplish ministry and organisational goals.

  • Explore the historical development and cultural expression of Christianity throughout Pasifika communities. Students examine key events, people and movements, Pasifika theological perspectives and the relationship between Christian faith, Pasifika knowledge, culture and contemporary ministry.

  • Develop a deeper understanding of Christian worldview and its application to life, vocation and ministry. Students explore major theological themes and develop advanced skills in interpreting, applying and communicating biblical and theological principles in contemporary contexts.

  • Explore the Old Testament at a deeper theological and interpretive level, including its literary, historical and cultural contexts. Students analyse key themes and narratives and apply Old Testament principles to contemporary ministry, leadership and community issues.

  • Explore the New Testament at a deeper theological and interpretive level, including its literary, historical and cultural contexts. Students analyse major teachings and narratives and apply New Testament insights to contemporary Christian ministry, leadership and spiritual life.

New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 1)

This program is 60 credits and is delivered over 22 weeks including a 2-week break. The program is full-time, Monday 1pm - 3pm Tuesdays - Wednesdays 9.50am - 3.30pm and Fridays 9.50am - 12.30pm and some self-directed learning to practice and go over things at home.

You will gain the skills to study the NZ Cert in Foundation Skills (Level 2), further learning or find a suitable job. You will also gain necessary literacy & numeracy skills.

This program is 60 credits and is delivered over 22 weeks including a 2-week break. The program is full-time, Monday 1pm - 3pm Tuesdays - Wednesdays 9.50am - 3.30pm and Fridays 9.50am - 12.30pm and some self-directed learning to practice and go over things at home.

You will gain the skills to study in Level 3 or 4, further learning or find a suitable job also with literacy & numeracy skills.
